It’s fall, and you can almost smell the scent of pumpkin spice lattes in the air. Here in Wake Forest, you’ll find a number of fall-themed activities that are a great way to enjoy the splendor of fall in our part of the country. Here are some that are not far from the Holding Village community for you to consider.
Ganyard Hill Farm
Durham
If you’ve got kids to keep busy, head to Ganyard Hill Farm in Durham. Here you can climb a haystack mountain, go through a hay maze, lounge in a corn crib and get up close and personal with farm animals. You can also pick a pumpkin right off of the vine during your visit. Admission is $12.50 per person.
Wide Open Bluegrass
Raleigh
Starting September 30 and running through October 1, the Wide Open Bluegrass festival will be held in Raleigh. This is the International Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass annual convention, and it brings in traditional and acoustic music across three different stages for your enjoyment. In addition, workshops, a film festival and a whole hog barbecue competition will be taking place this weekend.
Halloween Spooktacular
Wake Forest
The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resource Department is hosting a Halloween Spooktacular on Thursday, October 27 in the Flaherty Park Community center. From 4:30 until 8:30, this free festival will give you and your children a chance to dress up, play games and get involved in the community. A free pumpkin is available on a first-come, first-served basis, so arrive early to ensure you can get one!
Paws for Life 5K Road Race & Dog Walk/Costume Parade
Wake Forest
If your “kids” are of the furry variety, or you just love great causes and animals in general, consider joining the Franklin County Human Society for the Paws for Life 5K Road Race and Dog Walk/Costume Parade. Held in downtown Wake Forest on Saturday, October 29 at 10, the event starts with a humans-only 5k road race, followed by a one-mile dog walk and costume parade. Kid- and pet-friendly activities will make it a fun day for everyone.
