Summer is here and you’re ready to spend time outside! After all, our gorgeous seasons and scenery are part of why living in Wake Forest is so fantastic. This is the time of year to get outdoors and take advantage of living in one of the most beautiful places in the country. In order to love being out on your back porch area, you’re going to want to incorporate some of the season’s best decor ideas into your backyard design. Here are some of our favorites:
#1 Checkered flooring. Before you move on to decorations and furniture, start with the foundation of your area. The floor of your porch or patio goes a long way toward the overall feel of the space. Right now, checkered floor is very popular. Drab, one-color patio flooring is out. Instead, bring your space to life with tiles in a colored, checkered pattern.
#2 Hang plants on the fence. Who says a fence is all function and no aesthetics? If you’re looking for a way to elevate a basic wooden fence, simply mix and match your favorite plants in hanging pots. This brings an eye-catching look to an otherwise boring area of the yard.
#3 Set up an eating area. A picnic table or outdoor table and chairs, plus an umbrella and lighting, is all you need to eat your meals out in the fresh, warm air. You’ll love having breakfast out there in the morning sun before it gets too hot. Or perhaps, you can invite friends over for a Sunday brunch. Your back porch will be this summer’s hot spot!
#4 Hang an awning over the porch. You certainly want a sitting area on your patio to relax, chat with friends, have a glass of wine, or read a book. Some homes have a great back patio, but it’s far too hot and you get too much sun during this time of year because there’s no roof over you. An awning can easily fix that problem! This is a much cheaper solution than a brick and mortar construction, so adding an awning to your patio is a budget-friendly way to get the shade you want.
#5 Put up a swing chair. No room for a porch swing? No problem! Limited space isn’t a road block if you’re a savvy planner. Even a smaller back patio can benefit from a swing chair crafted of sturdy, outdoor materials such as rattan or wicker. You can sit in it and read your book or watch the kids play in the backyard.
These are just a few simple tips to get your brain working. When you look at this inspiration, you can probably think of a lot more beautiful ways to decorate your outdoor space. How about hanging bistro lights or laying down a colorful rug? This will be a summer full of memories you and your family will remember for a lifetime!
