The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has announced the start date for work to begin on the Rogers Road bridge replacement. The work will begin on June 13, close to the slated grand opening for the area’s newest Publix grocery store. It is anticipated that construction on the bridge should be completed in late October or early November.
While the bridge is currently safe, it must undergo repairs to meet today’s design standards as well as provide additional traffic capacity to meet the demands of the area.
As the bridge is being replaced to meet current design standards, it will also be widened at the same time. The opening of Publix at The Shoppes at Heritage Village is expected to bring an additional 650 vehicles traveling into the development between 5 and 6 p.m. The bridge on Rogers Road will go from a two-lane bridge to a five-lane bridge which will help to accommodate the additional vehicles. Additionally, the portion of Rogers Road from Hope Lutheran Church to the Forestville Road/Heritage Lake Road intersection will also be widened from three to five lanes.
While the detour may seem like an inconvenience for a little while, the Rogers Road bridge replacement has significant long-term benefits for motorists. If you travel on Rogers Road frequently, then you are likely aware of the congestion and bottlenecks that can occur in the area during both morning and evening rush hours. The new bridge will make getting around Wake Forest faster and easier than ever.
The construction project also includes the addition of new sidewalks and a greenway underpass, which residents are sure to enjoy. Signs indicating the construction zones and providing detours will go up approximately two weeks before the actual work begins.
