Wake Forest has been putting down roots in urban forestry for 45 years as a proud member of Tree City USA, demonstrating its deep commitment to a greener future. Aiming to preserve and expand the town’s green spaces, this program is supported by the Arbor Day Foundation. The Tree City USA has planted over 10,995 trees and has a state re-certification rate of 94.59%.
In fact, 43.43% of North Carolina’s population lives in Tree City USA communities, contributing to the state’s overall efforts in urban forestry management. At Holding Village, environmental stewardship is a deeply held value. Each year, the mayor of Wake Forest proudly accepts the Tree City USA and Growth Awards during the Arbor Day ceremony, symbolizing the town’s long-standing dedication to maintaining a vibrant and sustainable urban forest. Since 1979, Wake Forest has been recognized as a Tree City USA, and since 2000, it has consistently earned the prestigious Growth Award for going above and beyond in tree care and innovation.
This recognition is a testament to the town’s commitment, which includes meeting four essential standards: establishing a Tree Board or Department, enforcing a Community Tree Ordinance, investing at least $2 per capita in forestry programs, and hosting an annual Arbor Day celebration.
These efforts reflect the core values of Holding Village, where green living and natural spaces create a peaceful, eco-conscious community for residents who appreciate the beauty and benefits of nature.
